KHAYALI PULAO - Movie Review

By Mayura Choudhari

Khayali Pulao a 26 minutes short film starring Prajakta Koli who is popular as Mostly Sane on Youtube got the eye of all her followers and Youtube audience at large.

Written and directed by Tarun Dudeja and produced by One Digital Entertainment, the film is been shot in the village Majri in Jhajjar district, Haryana. The Haryanvi tone in dialogues and young girl into sports theme makes us remember film Dangal but Khayali Pulao has complete different approach.

At first we might look at the film as a girl Asha (Prajakta Koli) who is a topper in accounts who is suddenly aspiring to become a sports person might want to show her worth of being an all rounder or even girl's can play sports, which is a very generic approach that films on such themes have, but here the twist is not about the Freedom of a girl to play sports, as the film does have shown many girls playing sports in her (lead's) school; instead the film is catering to her desire to wear short (sport's) pants carrying and still carrying the confidence and no stigma of wearing such clothes as in the name of sports. Her interest to play for the team is not for playing the game but for wearing those shorts which she might not get a chance if not for sports.

The film has casted Actor Yashpal Sharma as girl's handball team coach, who is dealing his own frustration as being a girl's team coach he is given less importance and less salary as compared to the boy's team coach of the same school. Yashpal Sharma is a National School of Drama alumnus from batch 1994.

We have seen him before in various popular Bollywood mainstream movies like Lagaan, Ab Tak Chappan, Kuch khwahishen aisi bhi, Gangs of Wasseypur, Dum, and Gangajal where he has played versatile roles.

The 26-minute short film was shot in the month of November 2019, released on 9th of July 2020 has got 7.9/10 rating on IMDB. It has crossed 14 lakhs views just in one day. Comment boxes full of Prajakta's praises and a lot of reaction videos have appreciated and accepted a YouTuber as an actor with her debut itself.
