Statement condemning the arrest of journalist Prashant Kanojia by Uttar Pradesh police

A statement has been released condemning the arrest of Bahujan journalist Prashant Kanojia by Uttar Pradesh police on 18 August 2020 over tweet that was allegedly posted by him and "disrupted communal harmony".

He has been charged with nine sections under Indian Penal Code 1860 and Section 66 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

It statement criticised that the arrest is politically motivated and driven by vendetta.

The signatories to the statements includes Prashant's wife Jagisha Arora, Prominent Journalists, Academics, Activists, Scholars, Lawyers, Students, Bahujan Organisations, National and International Educational Institutions, Civil Society organisations and Multinational companies.
